Accounting Harmonization of Share-Based Payments in Contexts without Stock Markets: Proposal for a Cuban Standard
Keywords:
accounting harmonization, sharesAbstract
Financial globalization demands the convergence of accounting frameworks toward international standards that ensure comparability and transparency. However, countries like Cuba, which lack a formal stock market, face particular challenges in this process. This research proposes a Cuban Financial Reporting Standard for share-based payments, harmonized with IFRS 2 through a structured methodological process. The Jaccard similarity index reaches 0.71, which demonstrates a high degree of correspondence with the international standard. The proposal incorporates several contextualized elements: a selective scope, locally applicable equity instruments, the cost method for fair value determination, and an updated chart of accounts. We conclude that selective harmonization offers a feasible pathway to modernize the Cuban accounting framework.
