Abstract

Global trade is increasingly driven by digital technologies, with constant growth in connectivity and the use of mobile devices that facilitate access to information. The adoption of technologies such as cloud computing, Big Data, Blockchain and artificial intelligence has transformed the contemporary economy. In this new scenario, online commercial relationships between governments, companies, social organizations and citizens have become more frequent, significantly altering the roles in commerce. This shift is largely attributed to the Digital Economy, presenting opportunities and challenges for people less familiar with technologies. Universities play a fundamental role in developing skills and competencies for economic actors and students, adapting to the changing demands of the digital economy and the labor market. In Cuba, there is a development in commercial operations through digital means, diversification of electronic commerce, increased use of online payments, remote work and teleworking. This study explores theories related to the Digital Economy and its ecosystem, analyzes the role of universities in the development of digital skills. The methods used in the research were at a historical-logical theoretical level and the analytical-synthetic method to synthesize the main trends of the digital economy. It is concluded that it is necessary to establish alliances of universities with economic actors promoting the development of digital skills; create policies and action plans that facilitate citizen participation in the Digital Economy.
