Abstract

Aging is a demographic challenge that concerns various developed and underdeveloped economies. For Cuba it is the result of a well-founded social policy backed by the State. At the "Carlos Rafael Rodríguez" University of Cienfuegos, based on the age structure, a high rate of aging of the faculty is observed, especially in postgraduate training. The objective of the work is to base the incidence of the aging of the faculty and its incidence in doctoral training as part of the quality of substantive processes at the University of Cienfuegos. Theoretical and empirical methods are used. A diagnosis is made using descriptive statistics as a tool with the SPSS program. As a result, actions are proposed to contribute to the reduction of the counterproductive effects of this phenomenon.

Author Biographies

Olga Lourdes Vila Pérez, University of Cienfuegos. Cuba

Graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics in 1990. She completed a Doctorate in
Economic Sciences at the Escuela Superior del Partido “Ñico López,” Havana in April 2012
and obtained the academic category of Full Professor (2014). Currently, Professor of
Economics at the University of Cienfuegos belonging to the Department of Economic Studies
of the Faculty of Economic Sciences. She is the author of several national and foreign
publications (more than 20). She has been the recipient of several scientific awards.
He works on issues related to public policies, social policy, aging, employment, and
others. She is a researcher at the Center for Business Management and Local Development
Studies of the aforementioned institution since 2020.

Neldis Cordero Fernández, University of Cienfuegos. Cuba

He works in the Department of Economic Studies, Faculty of Economic Sciences of the
Carlos Rafael Rodríguez University of Cienfuegos. Graduated 8 years ago from this same
institution with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and a Master's Degree in Local
Socioeconomic Development since 2021. She works on issues related to aging. He has
participated in national and international scientific events related to this topic.
